Rehabilitation and Refurbishment of Tarred Roads and Construction of Road Intersections
This project formed part of the Lekwa Local Municipality’s overall development of existing infrastructure within the municipality’s boundaries, in line with its pavement management system. This contract formed part of the phased upgrade of the existing road infrastructure in the town of Standerton.
The proposed works for the intersection upgrades consisted of the following:
- Rehabilitation of existing roadway, by removing existing surfacing to spoil, removing existing base to spoil, compact sub base/selected layers, construction of new base and surfacing.
- The surfacing of approximately 17 000m² for the intersections using 80mm Heavy Duty interlocking paving blocks
- Construction of 150mm base layer (G2) layer compacted to 98% modified AASHTO density
- Construction of 150mm cemented sub base layer (C4) compacted to 95% modified AASHTO density
- Roadbed preparations/subgrade improvements
- Repairs to existing drainage elements
- Replacement of damaged drainage elements
- Limited patch repairs to the approaches to the intersections
- Installation of service ducts
